A former NFL Number 1 overall pick has quite the eye-popping suggestion for Joe Burrow.
Burrow, the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner, is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals. There have been many questions as to if he would try to get himself out of going to the franchise. While he has not publicly came out and said anything that would lead people to think he would actually try and get out of going to Cincinnati, many others think he should use his leverage and do just that.
Former No. 1 overall pick Steve Bartkowski is one of those people as he recently told Burrow to “pull an Eli Manning.” If you can;t remember, Eli was set to be picked by the San Diego Chargers, but he refused to play there and landed in New York.
“[Cincinnati] is not the best organization,” Steve Bartkowski said Monday. “You know, times change; things change. Atlanta wasn’t a good organization until Arthur Blank bought the team [in 2002]. It was a terrible organization. They didn’t know the right hand from the left to be honest.
“I know what it’s like to go to a bottom-feeder team. I’d hate to see that happen to him to be honest. They beat me up. I spent more time at the hospital recuperating from injuries my first three years than I did throwing touchdowns. It was tough.”
The Atlanta Falcons chose Bartkowski with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1975 NFL Draft, but he he would only win one playoff games during his 11 seasons there.
Burrow admitted on Monday that he has “leverage.”
“I do have leverage,” Burrow recently said. “[The Bengals] have their process and I have my process. We haven’t even gotten to the [NFL] combine yet. There’s a lot of things that happen leading up to the draft and a lot of information gathered.”
