The season ended more than one month ago. What’s taking Aaron Rodgers so long to decide his future with the Green Bay Packers? It should be noted that he stated he would not let his decision drag out.
“It won’t be something where I’ll drag it out for months and months,” Rodgers said.
“I’m not going to hold the team back from anything,” Rodgers said. “And once I commit — and if it’s committing to move forward here — it will be a quick decision.”
It has not been a quick decision as the NFL combine is up and running and Rodgers has been constantly in the news about something he might do, instead of giving a definitive answer.
For that reason, a former NFL GM is ripping him to shreds. During a recent episode of ESPN’s morning show Get Up, Mike Tannenbaum blasted Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the selfishness he’s been displaying in recent weeks and months.
“Aaron Rodgers is being selfish. Let’s make no mistake about it. He’s being very selfish. He’s known for a while what he’s going to do,” Tannenbaum said on the Wednesday episode of Get Up.
“When we talk about guys like Preston Smith, Billy Turner, Randall Cobb: these guys all have non-guaranteed money, if they’re going to be released, they’d much rather be released on March 2 then on March 17, because right now, there is more money available as teams head into free agency then there would be a week or two into free agency. He [Rodgers] knows what he’s going to do, he’s probably known for several months, he should let Green Bay know because they’re at an inflection point. If he’s there, a lot of those players are going to come back, if not, they’re probably going to reset and be let go. Those are consequential dollars for those players.”

The Packers have several key free agents, including Davante Adams and De’vondre Campbell. They are currently $29.8 million over the cap, per Spotrac.
Rodgers has won back-to-back MVP awards in 2020 and 2021. The 38-year-old threw for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns and completed 68.9 percent of his attempts in 16 starts last season.
The Packers have been the top seed in the NFC playoffs each of the past two seasons, but they have failed to reach the Super Bowl both times.
