Lamar Jackson has a real problem that is plaguing him.
The former league MVP announced this week that he has officially requested a trade amid a growing contract dispute following the Ravens placing the non-exclusive franchise tag on him earlier this offseason. The team wouldn’t announce his trade demand so he decided to get the ball rolling and do it himself.
Jackson doing things by himself has been a theme of his career because he has never had an agent. Despite his trade demand, several teams have already come out to state that they wouldn’t be pursuing him.
Former NFL executive Andrew Brandt said the real problem with Jackson is that he’s not a true free agent.
“The real issue with Lamar is not whether teams are interested in him now, with his rights still owned by the Ravens. Would they have been interested in him if were a ‘true’ free agent on March 15th, like all other free agents? I would think (hope) that would have been the case.”
Jackson may want out but head coach John Harbaugh kept things positive telling reporters this week that he’s still confident that Jackson will be the team’s quarterback in 2023.

If he isn’t there, the team is on tap to have in-house options like Tyler Huntley or Anthony Brown. They could make a move for someone else but may be better off being bad in 2023 to snag a top college QB in a heavily stacked draft in 2024.
