Joe Burrow needs an offensive line that will keep him upright and uninjured. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback suffered another knee injury in Super Bowl 56. Early in the fourth quarter, the 25-year-old was sacked by Rams’ outside linebacker Von Miller and Burrow immediately fell to the ground, grabbed his right knee, and started screaming in pain.
Burrow stayed on the field for a while before getting up and limping off the field. Fortunately for him and the team, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Burrow’s knee injury won’t require offseason surgery.
While reviewing Super Bowl LVI with his former ESPN colleague Adam Schefter, longtime NFL executive Bill Polian offered a warning for the Bengals’ young star.
“He’s a tough guy. I hope that he doesn’t turn into Andrew Luck,” Polian said. “[Owner] Mike Brown and [director of player personnel] Duke Tobin knows what he’s doing. They have to fix that, before he ends up getting injured, which will effect his long-term career.”
As you know Luck flashed superstardom early in his career, but he would shock the world when he retired because of his team’s weakness up front. His body simply couldn’t take the beating anymore.
Burrow was sacked a league-leading 51 times during the regular season, and was also brought down nine times in Cincinnati’s playoff win over Tennessee.
