With the NFL draft just a month away, tragedy struck one potential first-round prospect, as he suffered a life-changing injury that’s been the source of plenty of controversy and criticism towards the NFL
During his Pro Day workout, Michigan linebacker David Ojabo went down in the middle of a drill with what appeared to be a serious leg injury.
It was later revealed that Ojabo had suffered a torn achilles, likely costing him his entire 2022 rookie season and a spot in the first round of next month’s draft.
It was a heartbreaking moment to watch unfold, and the reactions of the coaches and scouts in attendance only made it even more difficult to watch. Not because of their cringing faces or anything like that. Rather, it’s because of their lack of reactions, as many were left disgusted with how little anyone in attendance seemed to care about Ojabo’s horrible injury.
Heck, the one coach closest to Ojabo barely acknowledged him as he walked by to pick up the loose ball. Many were quick to call out the coaches and scouts in attendance, claiming this was a perfect example of how little these NFL front offices care about the players themselves…
However, according to former NFL doctor David J. Chao, there’s a reason everyone around Ojabo reacted as they did:

Chao does make a valid point. It’s not like some random scout on the sideline is going to be able to help him deal with the injury. And you usually don’t want a bunch of people crowding around a guy when he’s hurt — especially when they have nothing to offer in that situation.
Still, you’d think the dude who walked over to grab the ball could have at least acknowledged Ojabo and maybe asked him is he’s okay. Or maybe even waive for help…
No matter how you’d like to explain it, the optics of this are just plain bad.
