A wide receiver who played for the Miami Dolphins is set to play in the UFL this spring.
Preston Williams found his way into the NFL as an undrafted player out of Colorado State in 2019. He registered 428 yards and three touchdowns in eight appearances for the Fins before injuries waylaid his career.
He failed to produce similar stats across his next 16 appearances, staying in Maimi until 2022. The Carolina Panthers took a gamble on him that year, signing him to their practice squad and then bumping him up to their active roster late in the season. He saw two offensive snaps in his only appearance before he was released.
Now, he’s set to attempt to resurrect his career in the UFL following the XFL-USFL merger as, according to the XFL website and Palm Beach Post reporter Joe Schad, the DC Defenders have him as an “active list addition.”
The Defenders went 9-1 in their 2023 XFL campaign and lost the championship game to the Arlington Renegades
As for Williams, the UFL could offer him a route back to the NFL, with both the XFL and USFL having provided such opportunities for players last year, with several of them earning training camp invites following spells in said leagues.
