Former Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith is now denying criminal accusations of having sex with an underage girl. Smith pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful sexual contact with a teenage girl, according to TMZ.
“TMZ Sports has confirmed…Smith’s lawyer sent in the not guilty plea in the mail last week…waiving his arraignment and right to be present at all pretrial conferences,” TMZ reported. “Smith allegedly met the underage girl at her work in Duval County, FL days before their first sexual encounter at his home. Officials claim the accuser’s co-worker made it clear to Smith she was underage.”
Officials reportedly have “everything from DNA to audio recordings to prove his guilt.”
Smith allegedly met the young girl at her place of work in August 2019 and continued to pursue her, despite knowing she was under the age of 18. Smith would soon offer her $200 after the two had sex, “for her troubles.” The girl declined the money at first, but later felt pressured into accepting a $100 bill, which she then used for emergency contraception.
TMZ said that the court documents say Smith told the girl, “that if anyone raised concerns about them speaking, to say that Smith was serving as a ‘mentor’ to her.”
Another incident that allegedly went down was in September 2019 when Smith picked up the girl in his Cadillac Escalade which they then had sex in at a nearby parking lot. A search warrant allowed cops to seize that Cadillac Escalade, where they found DNA evidence matching the alleged victim, according to court documents.
