The Indianapolis Colts have confirmed the death of one of their former players.
Fred Miller, an erstwhile defensive tackle who played for the Colts for 10 seasons, passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.
A three-time Pro Bowler, Miller spent his entire professional career with the team and helped them win the NFL Championship in 1968 before becoming a Super Bowl champion three years later.
“Rest in peace, FRED MILLER, #76, 10-year starting DT of the Baltimore Colts. A three-time Pro Bowl selection,” Colts owner Jim Irsay said in a tweet on Monday.
Miller was selected out of LSU in the first round of the 1963 NFL Draft and went on to make 133 appearances for the Colts, with 124 of them being starts. He registered 52 sacks over the 10-year span, making 10 in 1964, as well as 10 fumble recoveries. He was drafted by both the Colts (Baltimore back then) and the Oakland Raiders but went on to sign with the former.
That was before the move that saw the NFL and AFL merge in 1966.

Miller made three consecutive Pro Bowls from 1967-69, also appearing in Super Bowl 3 against the New York Jets prior to a victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl 5.
TotalProSports extends commiserations to Miller’s family and loved ones during what must be a difficult time.
