A former wide receiver who played for the Kansas City Chiefs is dead at the age of 35.
The family of Devon Wylie announced the former wideout’s death this Monday, though they did not disclose a cause.
“We wanted to make this post so people who knew and loved Devon could learn of his passing because we don’t have the capacity to reach out to everyone in this hard time,” a family member said, per ABC30.com.
“There are no words to express the sadness that comes from losing a brother, dear friend and an amazing uncle. Devon had so much love and joy to give. Always making people laugh and entertaining us with his football skills, guitar jams, silly jokes and voices, back-flip tricks, fun banter Star Wars obsession chat, Halo nights and not to mention his beautiful smile. We will miss him always.”
Wylie was selected by the Chiefs out of the 2012 NFL Draft after starring for Granite Bay High School in California and then Fresno State. He made six catches in six games for the team in his rookie year but was released ahead of the 2013 season, moving on to play two games for the Tennessee Titans before stints on various practice squads around the league.
He last played in the CFL in 2017 and was pursuing a career in music before his death.
TotalProSports extends condolences to Devon’s family, friends, and loved ones during their time of grief.
