Geno Hayes is reportedly in hospice care and fighting for his life following liver complications.
The 33-year-old former NFL linebacker is at his mother’s home in Georgia, his high school coach Frankie Carroll told the Tallahassee Democrat.
“Geno’s in need of prayers. He’s fighting for his life,” Carroll said. “It’s tough. Geno’s a fun-loving guy.”
The Tallahassee Democrat reported that Hayes’ condition “has deteriorated in recent weeks.”
During his time in the league, Hayes spent seven years with Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was drafted in the sixth round out of Florida State by the Bucs in 2008.
He last played in the NFL in 2014 with Jacksonville, starting 11 games. He tallied 10 sacks, six forced fumbles, six interceptions, and 401 tackles in his seven-year career.
