Absolute tragic news struck the NFL world late last month when NFL defensive tackle Ekom Udofia passed away. He was reportedly shot and killed by Phoenix police.
Police said Udofia was armed with a BB gun and was reportedly in the street “disrupting traffic,” according to a report from KTAR News.
Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said “He was not firing at cars. What we know is he was armed and there was traffic flowing and he was jumping in front of vehicles.”
Fortune said Udofia was told to lower his weapon, but instead he came forward and allegedly aimed at the police.
Udofia’s longtime friend, David Uffens, spoke to ABC 15 about the news:
“I don’t know what happened, and I can’t place myself there,” Uffens said. “I only know that we lost a tremendous person, somebody that everybody I know cared about deeply.”
