The Dallas Cowboys may have defeated the Tampa Bay Bucs, but they still walked away very upset about their kicker. After a rocky finish to the regular season, Dak Prescott bounced back, throwing for 304 yards, four touchdowns, and a 143.3 passer rating in a 31-14 Wild Card win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kicker Brett Maher had a nightmare game, tying the NFL record for the most missed PATs in a single game by halftime before missing a record fourth in the second half. He was reportedly shanking them so bad they were missing the net behind the uprights and flying into the stands.
It got to a point that prominent people in the media as well as former players began to accuse him of point shaving.
Former Ohio State and NFL QB Cardale Jones wrote, “Check 19 bank account, buddy might be point shaving.”
Former NFL player Derrick Mason added:

Robert Griffin III posted, “Aye we gotta check Brett Maher’s phone records at this point. Something is up.”
The hits just kept on coming.
His missed kicks cost a ton of people money since the over on the game didn’t make it by 0.5.
In the wake of Maher missing an NFL-record four extra points in Monday night’s 31-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card Round, McCarthy said the following about his kicker, per Pat Doney of NBC5: “We need to get him ready to go [for San Francisco] … We need him. He’s been super clutch for us all year.”
Despite Maher missing each of his first four extra-point attempts, McCarthy stuck with him throughout Monday’s game, and he was rewarded when Maher finally convertedan extra point on Dallas’ fifth TD of the game.
The Cowboys are way too deep in the playoff mix to make a change at kicker, but this could come back to bite them in the butt if Maher continues to be bad at his job.
