It’s the handshake (or non-handshake, depending on who you ask) that has taken the NFL by storm.
After picking off Baker Mayfield during his team’s 31-3 victory on Monday Night Football, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman criticized the Browns’ quarterback for supposedly not shaking his hand prior to the pregame coin toss.
Via ESPN:
“What’s amazing, and annoying, was him not shaking hands at the beginning,” Sherman said, according to NFL.com. “That’s some college s—. It’s ridiculous. We’re all trying to get psyched up, but shaking hands with your opponent — that’s NFL etiquette. And when you pull bush league stuff, that’s disrespectful to the game. And believe me, that’s gonna get us fired up.”
Well, it didn’t take long for footage to emerge of this controversial handshake. And from the looks of it….we really can’t tell if Baker stiffed Sherman or not.
It appears as though Sherman (no. 25 in red) walks past Mayfield, but it’s kind of hard to tell what happens at that point. What we do know is that Mayfield didn’t stiff every Niners player. He gave tight end George Kittle quite the friendly hug.
