The NFL finally decided to come clean on the worst-kept secret involving Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, following the release of the 2024 regular season schedule.
The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 to complete the first NFL repeat in 19 years. With three Lombardi Trophies in five years, the Chiefs have cemented themselves as the new dynasty and golden franchise.
During his appearance on “The Adam Schefter Podcast”, NFL Vice President of Broadcast Planning Mike North admitted that the defending Super Bowl champions are the “bellcow” for the league schedule. That’s largely why the league decided to give KC a difficult schedule that’s loaded with primetime games:
“They’ve been our bellcow for a while, right? They’re kind of used to carrying our water for some of these unique kind of opportunities. You think about that Peacock playoff game last year…put a Chiefs game there. If Amazon wants to continue to try and build Black Friday into an event…put a Chiefs game there. You want to make Christmas on Netflix a thing? Put a Chiefs game there.”
Incredibly, the Chiefs will be playing on six different days of the week during the 2024 NFL regular season. Christmas falls on a Wednesday this year, and KC will visit Russell Wilson’s Pittsburgh Steelers in one of the two games on Dec. 25 (the other is Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens).

The NFL has also decided to feature the Kansas City Chiefs on Black Friday (Nov. 29), where they’lll welcome the Las Vegas Raiders. KC has two Monday night games (New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 7 and Nov. 4, respectively) and one Thursday nighter (the Kickoff Game vs. Baltimore on Sept. 5).
Kansas City is also scheduled to play on Saturday (Dec. 21) against CJ Stroud’s Texans at Arrowhead Stadium. Tuesday is the only day of the week where Kansas City will not play a game in 2024.
Kansas City Chiefs Aim For A Three-Peat
No team in NFL history has won three straight Super Bowls, though the 1990 San Francisco 49ers and ’94 Dallas Cowboys both came close. After winning consecutive Super Bowls, the 49ers and Cowboys lost in the NFC title game, ending their three-peat bids.
The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to be the first team in NFL history to win three straight Lombardi Trophies. Bet against this team wisely, considering they’ve played in six straight AFC title games and four of the last five Super Bowls.
