The Washington Commanders are nearing a deal that will see the team change hands, with current owner Dan Snyder reported to have finally reached an agreement to sell.
Last month, reports claimed that Snyder and his wife had already moved out of the Commanders’ facility in preparation for a sale. Now, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that the team will be sold to a group led by Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris for $6.05 billion.
“It is not exclusive and not signed. But Harris appears to have won the bidding and a finalized sale is expected if all goes well,” Rapoport said.
Harris, who also owns the New Jersey Devils, is joined by the likes of former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Magic Johnson, as well as billionaire Mitchell Rales.
Should the deal not fall through, it will mark the most expensive sale in NFL history.
The Denver Broncos are the most expensive NFL team to date after being bought by the Walton-Penner group in 2022. But it appears they’re about to be usurped on that front.
