The Jacksonville Jaguars showed an awesome throwback photo of newcomer Mac Jones that has quickly gone viral.
On Sunday, the Jaguars acquired the 25-year-old quarterback from the New England Patriots in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick. The 2021 first-round pick was born in Jacksonville and grew up cheering for the very team that just traded for him.
For “Throwback Thursday”, the Jaguars posted a photo of a young Jones wearing a Blake Bortles Jacksonville jersey. Bortles, another former first-round pick, was the Jaguars’ starting QB from 2014 to 2018.

Jones lost his starting job to second-year QB Bailey Zappe, who replaced him in multiple games during the Patriots’ dismal 2023 season. Zappe finished out the year as the Patriots’ QB in favor of Jones, whose 2023 season ended with 10 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.
The Alabama product will now serve as the backup to his former 2021 draft class mate, Trevor Lawrence. He may not see much playing time, but Jones can only benefit learning behind a borderline top-10 QB and from offensive guru Super Bowl-winning head coach Doug Pederson.
For his career (42 games), Jones has a 66.1 completion percentage for 8,918 yards and 46 touchdowns against 36 interceptions to go along with 327 rushing yards and one rushing TD. He finished second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2021, falling to Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.
