With Bill Belichick now officially a free agent for the first time in a quarter-century, some football fans are proposing a fascinating scenario that has him leaving the NFL for the college ranks.
On Thursday, Belichick and Robert Kraft held a press conference to formally announce that the legendary head coach is leaving New England after 24 seasons, nine AFC championships and six Super Bowl trophies
Belichick’s official departure comes one day after his longtime friend, Nick Saban, retired after spending 17 seasons as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide. With the Alabama position now vacant, some fans suggested the idea of Belichick heading to Bama to succeed another football icon:

Belichick has never been a coach at the college ranks, spending his entire career in the NFL that began in 1975 with the Baltimore Colts. He’s most certainly not going to go the NCAA now, and Alabama will certainly be eyeing a candidate with valuable college experience.
The 71-year-old Belichick is now the hottest name available on the NFL free agent coaching market. Aside from the Patriots, seven other teams have head coaching vacancies.
It’s likely only a matter of time until the future Hall of Famer lands another head coaching position with another team. The Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers have been widely mentioned as possible landing spots for Belichick, but we’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
