Football fans had the same complaint about the NFL following their surprise Week 18 announcement regarding referee Brad Allen.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday that Allen’s crew will officiate the Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers game on Saturday. ESPN will call the must-win game for the Steelers, who will be eliminated from postseason contention with a loss.
Allen’s crew is under intense scrutiny following the controversial ending of the Detroit Lions-Dallas Cowboys game on Saturday. Lions offensive lineman Taylor Decker caught a go-ahead two-point conversion with 23 seconds left, but he was flagged for illegal touching on the play.
Allen’s crew claimed that Decker never reported eligible, but No. 70 (Dan Skipper) did. The Cowboys stopped Detroit’s final two-point conversion try to win the game.
News of Allen’s crew getting the Pittsburgh-Baltimore game led to plenty of outrage from football fans on social media, to say the least…

Back in December, Schefter reported that Allen’s crew would “be under increased scrutiny” for Week 14 after missing several calls late in the Kansas City Chiefs-Green Bay Packers Week 13 game at Lambeau Field.
The NFL obviously isn’t ready to hand down any serious discipline of any kind for Allen and his officials. Perhaps this is a matter they’ll address in the upcoming offseason, though history tells us they won’t do a thing to help enhance the quality of officiating.
