Right before Emme Maribel Muñiz — Jennifer Lopez’s 11-year-old daughter — started singing during the Super Bowl 54 halftime show, she had to crawl out of her cage. Most people likely thought nothing of that moment, but it meant something.
While singing and dancing on stage, dark patches of the football field in Hard Rock Stadium were illuminated by several neon structures with children caged inside.
Several applauded Lopez and Shakira for bringing awareness of the humanitarian crisis at the Southern border to the Super Bowl and encouraging discussion about it with their platform afforded by the halftime show.
