NFL fans were making the same joke about the Pittsburgh Steelers after their quarterback announcement on Monday.
Following a third straight loss, this one at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts, the Steelers have decided to bench Mitch Trubisky in favor of third-stringer Mason Rudolph. The team’s main starting quarterback, Kenny Pickett, is recovering from surgery on a high ankle sprain.
Mike Tomlin and company are clearly hoping that Rudolph will be able to provide a spark to a stagnant offense that has been held to under 20 points in five straight games.
The Steelers’ announcement of a quarterback change for Week 16 was met with hilarious jokes by the NFL world.

Rudolph’s career stats aren’t eye-popping, but he has gotten it done more often than not. He is 5-4-1 in his career as a starting quarterback, with a 61.5 completion percentage for 16 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions.
As Pittsburgh’s starting QB, Trubisky is 2-5-0 with just eight touchdowns against 10 interceptions. He started the 2022 season as the Steelers QB in favor of Pickett, but Trubisky’s struggles prompted Tomlin to make an early-season QB change.
Something had to change at quarterback, one way or another. Rudolph has simply been a better backup QB in Steel City than Trubisky, and Tomlin couldn’t go back to the 2017 first-round pick with a playoff spot very still very much within reach.
