Earlier this year, a fan dropped a lawsuit asking for $6 billion and demanded that the Jets and Giants leave New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium to play in New York City by 2025. That fan has not only not dropped that lawsuit, but made some amends to it.
The original plaintiff, Abdiell Suero, now wants the teams to drop “New York” from their names in place of “New Jersey” because that’s where they actually play their home games every year, according to the New York Post.
Suero is now joined by another plaintiff, Maggie Wilkins and they are demanding that MetLife Stadium get rid of its cash-free concession policy, which the stadium adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“MetLife Stadium is located in the swamps of East Rutherford, NJ … , which has a population under 10,000, the 116th largest city in New Jersey. It’s not exactly an exciting and romantic destination[,] and the Giants, Jets and MetLife Stadium have absolutely no connection whatsoever with the city, county or state of New York. … Plaintiffs Abdiell Suero and Maggie Wilkins insist they were duped by false advertising and other fraudulent deceptive practices into believing the Giants and Jets still played in New York and shelled out some significant green to see Blue Blue and Gang Green play at MetLife Stadium.”
According to the Post, “The class-action case also seeks to represent anyone who was tricked by the teams’ marketing since 2016 into attending NFL games at the stadium.” The attorney leading the lawsuit is Evan Spencer.
“Not only isn’t the Meadowlands in New York, it was the site of one of the country’s biggest garbage dumps for decades before defendants’ stadiums were built on top of it,” wrote Spencer, demanding the case move forward.
The NFL, Jets and Giants want the suit dismissed and believe the use of “New York” isn’t misleading.
The lawsuit seeks $2 billion in monetary damages and $4 billion in punitive damages, with legal claims against the two teams including false advertising and deceptive practices.

The Giants issued a statement in response to the lawsuit, declaring that “this case has no merit and we will defend it vigorously.” The Jets have not commented on the matter yet.
