NFL fans believe there’s a conspiracy theory regarding the MCL sprain that’s believed to have ended David Montgomery’s season.
The 27-year-old David Montgomery suffered an MCL sprain in the Lions’ Week 15 home loss to the Buffalo Bills. It was initially reported that Montgomery would be out for the season, but he’s hopeful about beating the timeline and returning soon.
Montgomery currently has 775 rushing yards in 14 games. At the start of the year, Vegas set his rushing yard prop for the 2024 season at 775.5.
So as you would guess, some fans believe that his injury is part of a conspiracy that helped Vegas avoid paying out bets to fans who bet on him finishing with over 775.5 yards on the ground:
“It’s all rigged, all of it,” a fan wrote.
“That second opinion was Vegas telling him to take a seat,” another quipped.
“NFL Vegas rigged football, and they’re openly bragging about it on X…,” a fan said.

“i wonder how much they paid him lmao,” a fan asked.
“Vegas putting out a hit on David Montgomery was not on my NFL bingo card #Gamblingx,” said a fan.
“So David Montgomery got injured and ain’t play damn near three quarters yet they put him back in the game while they losing and it’ll be all passes,” a fan pointed out.
“Vegas does again. David Montgomery’s MCL injury is FAKE! Vegas called because Monty was about to finish his season rushing line!,” said another.

The Lions have been hit hard by the injury bug, with defensive tackle Alim McNeill and cornerback Carlton Davis III also getting hurt in the loss to Buffalo. With the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings also winning on Sunday, there’s a three-way tie for the NFC’s top record at 12-2.
Lions Need Others To Step Up Without David Montgomery
The good news for the Lions is that they still have a top-10 running back in Jahmy Gibbs to carry the way with Montgomery sidelined. But they’ll also need the likes of Jameson Williams, TJ Hockenson and Amon-Ra St. Brown to step up with Montgomery out for the foreseeable future.
