Due to the amazing career Tom Brady had with the Patriots, New England is one of the most recognizable NFL teams and names around the world.
However, at one point, the Patriots almost had a very different name. They were set to become the Bay State Patriots, which would pay homage to the entire state of Massachusetts instead of the New England Patriots.
The Change was supposed to happen in 1971 when they got a new stadium in Foxborough and wanted to move on from being the Boston Patriots after playing in Boston since 1960 between four different fields. Of course, that would end up being shortened to BS Patriots, and for obvious reasons, that couldn’t have been done.
If that had been overlooked, it could have made for some very funny moments, and many NFL fans online are making jokes about the potential name.
“That would’ve been amazing.” one comment said.
“Well they are BS so it works,” another said.

“kinda wish they hadnt realized this,” a third added.
Despite what could have become a very funny name, the Patriots made a wise move to pivot to using New England instead.
New England Patriots Have A Quarterback Battle Brewing
Other than the Mac Jones era, the Patriots have had a solidified quarterback on the team ever since Tom Brady took over as the starter in 2001.
This year, though, after drafting Drake Maye No. 3 overall and Joe Milton in the sixth round, both are competing for a spot over recently signed Jacoby Brissett.
As of now, it’s clear that Maye will eventually take over the starting spot, but Milton has been making noise at training camp and could easily become second-string by the end of the season despite being labeled fourth in the Patriots depth chart.
