NFL fans are in stitches over a hilarious story that former New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel told about head coach Bill Belichick.
Apple TV+ released the fifth and six episodes of their documentary, “The Dynasty” that chronicles the Patriots’ 21st century. One of the new episodes recounted the 2008 season, where Cassel had to play out the year as the starter due to a torn ACL that Tom Brady suffered minutes into the season opener.
Per Michael Hurley of CBS Boston, Cassel told a timeless story of Belichick ordering him to figure out a cornerback blitz. Let’s just say that Belichick was totally blunt and straight to the point with his message to Cassel:
“He has told this one before, but it’s still good: “One time, I don’t see a corner blitz, and I get absolutely annihilated, like boom! Belichick comes in and he says, ‘Cassel, can we figure out the corner blitz? Because I don’t want to have to write your mother a letter that says, ‘Dear Mrs. Cassel, we’re sorry to inform you that your son is dead because he’s a dumba** and didn’t see the corner blitz.'”
This story quickly went viral around X/Twitter, and it sparked a plethora of hysterical reactions from the football community:

For what it’s worth, Cassel wound up taking a league-leading 47 sacks during the 2008 season. For comparison sake, Brady himself was only sacked 21 times in the Patriots’ almost-perfect 2007 season.
Cassel led the Patriots to an 11-5 record without their franchise star, tossing 3,693 passing yards and 21 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. However, the Patriots wound up missing out on the postseason via tiebreakers to the Miami Dolphins (the AFC East winners) and Baltimore Ravens (the sixth wild card team).
After the 2008 season, Cassel and Mike Vrabel were traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. Cassel helped Kansas City to an AFC West division crown in the 2010 season.
