NFL fans are ripping on former quarterback Robert Griffin III for a hot take on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance.
Robert Griffin III came to the defense of Lance during the latter’s tough outing in Saturday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Though Lance threw for 323 yards and led the team with 90 rushing yards, the main talking point was his five interceptions in a 26-19 loss.
While fans were mostly destroying Lance’s frustrating outing, RG3 saw something positive in his performance and wrote, “This is why you don’t give up on Trey Lance.”
And let’s just say that fans (strongly) disagreed with Griffin’s take on the third overall pick of 2021:

The Cowboys acquired Lance in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers before the start of the 2023 season. Lance suffered a season-ending foot injury in Week 2 of the 2022 season and lost his starting job to rookie Brock Purdy, who led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game.
Lance saw no playing time last season behind Dak Prescott or Cooper Rush. Per Cowboys reporter Nick Harris, owner Jerry Jones stated that Lance will be on the roster despite the five-pick outing.
The Cowboys will open their 2024 season on the road against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 8. That game marks Tom Brady’s debut as an NFL analyst on FOX Sports.
Robert Griffin III’s Next Career Step Is Unclear
Many were stunned when ESPN fired Robert Griffin III and Sam Ponder last week as part of budget cuts. The 34-year-old RG3, who joined the Worldwide Leader in Sports in 2021, was popular with his fun personality and sharp NFL analysis.
Griffin’s status with ESPN was in doubt when Jason Kelce was hired to replace RG3 on “Monday Night Countdown.” Sure enough, he was among the big-named analysts to lose his job at ESPN.
So it remains to be seen what the future holds for RG3. He still has a strong social media following and a popular YouTube channel, so he won’t be going away any time soon.
