NFL fans made the same complaint about Al Michaels during the Thursday night contest between the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints at the Caesars Superdome.
Ever since he moved over to Amazon Prime Video to call “Thursday Night Football” with Kirk Herbstreit, Al Michaels has received immense criticism over his performance in the broadcast booth.
More specifically, fans have accused the 79-year-old (80 next month) of sounding sleepy and bored during games. But fans took it a step further tonight, suggesting that the legendary commentator actually hates his job now:

In Al Michaels’ defense, he couldn’t have been assigned a more lopsided game with Herbstreit tonight. The Broncos made easy work of a banged-up New Orleans team missing three key offensive players to injury in Derek Carr, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.
Unfortunately for Mr. Michaels, it seems like more than half the games he’s been assigned to call with Amazon Prime Video have been yawn-festers. Certainly, the games are rarely as exciting as the marquee “Sunday Night Football” contests that he called for 16 years at NBC.
Al Michaels Hasn’t Committed To Returning In 2025
Michaels is in the final season of a three-year deal worth a reported $45 million he signed with Amazon last year. The beloved announcer hasn’t at all hinted at retiring, but it’s also possible that Amazon will decide to replace him after the season.
If that happens, Michaels may have no choice but to walk away from broadcasting. It’s possible, though unlikely, that a rival network like CBS or FOX would hire him for one of their secondary broadcast teams.
For now, there’s still 10 weeks remaining on the Amazon Prime Video schedule for 2024. So it’s too early to speculate on Michaels retirement.
