The date was February 5, 2017, when the Atlanta Falcons were playing in their second Super Bowl in franchise history, and dominating the New England Patriots to the point where they held a 28-3 lead towards the end of the third quarter.
Instead of keeping their foot on the gas to ensure the victory, the Falcons decided to play not to lose and they learned a lot about Tom Brady and why he has the most Super Bowls in NFL history.

Tom Brady and the Patriots would infamously come back to tie the game in the final minute of regulation with a touchdown and completed 2-point conversion. The Patriots would then go on to win 34-28 in overtime and complete the biggest comeback in NFL Super Bowl history.
The Atlanta Falcons Have Never Recovered From NFL Super Bowl LI
One day, you can be on cloud nine in the NFL and then things can fall apart and nothing will ever be the same. No franchise embodies that more than the Falcons. The team was 11-5 during the 2016 season and made it all the way to the Super Bowl just to lose in historic fashion.
It turns out the Atlanta Falcons never recovered from their collapse against the Patriots in Super Bowl LI.
In 2017, the team got back into the playoffs but lost in the NFL Divisional round. That would prove to be their final winning season until the current day.
The team has won seven games in every single year except one where they won four and haven’t been back to the postseason in six years, via Pro Football Reference. There is hope with the new head coach and crop of players but the team still needs to put it all together if they want to have another shot of winning it all.
What do you think of fans constantly trolling the Atlanta Falcons over their massive failure seven years ago in the Super Bowl? Is it time for us to finally let the past be the past or is this just friendly banter? We would love to hear what you think in the comments.
