The San Francisco 49ers appeared to get away with blatant pass interference in their win over the Seattle Seahawks.
The 49ers earned a commanding 31-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Thanksgiving Day at Lumen Field which further cemented their claim on the NFC West’s top spot and inching closer to the conference’s No. 1 seed.
However, things may have been much different in the third quarter when the Seahawks were mounting a comeback. With less than five minutes to play, Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith’s pass to Seattle wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba on second-and-goal fell incomplete in the end zone.
However, everyone was convinced the contact 49ers cornerback Ambry Thomas made with the wideout before the pass was thrown should have been called for defensive holding or at least pass interference.
The ball should have been placed at the 1-yard line with an automatic first down. Instead, Smith was sacked on 3rd-and-goal and the team settled for a field goal to cut the lead to 24-13.
With the correct call, we could’ve seen a 24-17 game heading into the final frame with the momentum on the side of the Seahawks.
