Byron Kennedy has been the talk of week 7 in the NFL. And no, that’s not the name of some little-known second-year safety on the New York Jets, or anything like that. Rather, Byron is the guy who was the recipient of Tom Brady’s 600th touchdown ball after Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans gave the souvenir to the sombrero-wearing Bucs fan in the front row.
Since then, this entire story has snowballed. After a member of the Bucs’ staff went over to negotiate the return of the ball to Tom Brady, social media has erupted.
There’s the rumors surrounding the value of the ball, which some believe could have netted Byron up to $750,000.
There’s the story about how the Bucs have only given Byron a replacement game ball and a $1,000 gift card to the team store.
Well, on Monday, everyone’s been trying to get a word in with Byron to find our what really happened. The NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano was one of the lucky ones to get a moment to speak with the lucky (or unlucky, according to some) Bucs fan, during which he came across some interesting revelations.

When asked whether he regretted his decision to give the ball back, Byron reiterated that he would have done the same thing, rightfully claiming that the ball was Tom’s and it was his record. So it’s only right that he gets the ball if that’s what he wishes.
Byron also told Andrew that so far he’s received some memorabilia and a gift card, but the deal was not quite done as of yet, saying they’re still working things out and the team has plans to take care of him even further.
But when asked whether he would like to renegotiate his deal, Byron said no…He’d just like to add a little something in. Like say, maybe, a round of golf with Tom Brady?
After watching the entire interview on NFL Network, I’ve got to admit, Byron said all the right things. He’s had a great attitude throughout all of this. The fact that he would still give the ball to Tom if given a second chance, after all of this, is commendable.
So, what do you say, Brady? How about giving the man what he wants and taking him out for a round of golf with Gronk and Mike Evans? Let’s make it happen!
