The parents of a young Chiefs fan who went viral after television cameras caught him at last weekend’s game vs. the Las Vegas Raiders are threatening a lawsuit against popular publication, Deadspin.
Holden Armenta was accused of wearing blackface by the website, which displayed a photo of one side of his face painted in black. As it turns out, the other half of his face was painted red. His mother, Shannon Armenta, has lashed out at her son’s critics as it’s become clear that he did nothing wrong.
The headdress he was wearing was not prohibited at the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium, while he happens to be part Native American.
Now, the kid’s family is demanding an apology, as well as a retraction, with an attorney having addressed a letter to the site.
“These articles, posts on X and photos about Holden and his parents must be retracted immediately,” the document from Clare Locke LLP reads (H/T the New York Post).
“It is not enough to quietly remove a tweet from X or disable the article from Deadspin’s website. You must publish your retractions and issue an apology to my clients with the same prominence and fanfare with which you defamed them.”
Holden is the grandson of Raul Armenta, a committee member of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.
