Arthur Smith is set for a mega payday that will require absolutely nothing from him on the back of his firing from the Atlanta Falcons organization on Sunday night.
Amith was fired almost immediately after the Falcons lost to the New Orleans Saints, with the development taking place quickly enough to make it to the post-game segment of ‘Sunday Night Football’.
The Falcons have missed out on the playoffs for six consecutive years and the 7-10 record they’ve ended the season with is their third straight.
MLFootball has pointed out that Atlanta will be paying Smith a whopping sum a day to do nothing for the next three seasons.
Smith, who was brought in to turn things around, is now out of a job, yet that hardly means he won’t be getting paid as NFL coaching contracts are fully guaranteed and teams need to honor them whether or not they keep the coach around.
So the Falcons will be stuck with his salary, though they could decide on a smaller buyout if he feels inclined to do them a favor after getting fired.
