X, formally known as Twitter, has always had issues with fake accounts spreading misinformation. Such was the case on Thursday.
By now, everyone has heard the news about a U.S. federal judge ruling that a list of Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged victims and associates —some of whom have been accused of being involved in the disgraced financier’s exploitation and abuse of underage girls— must be unsealed and made public.
Well, a fake Adam Schefter X account tweeted out that Carolina Panthers owner, David Tepper, is on that list. Not only that, the tweet added that other owners were trying to get him out of the league.
“Breaking News out of FBI headquarters in Washington DC:
Names have leaked off the official Epstein client list. Notably on that list, is Carolina Panthers owner, David Tepper.
Internal discussions have begun within the circle of NFL owners on how to remove Tepper as owner.”
The real Schefter saw the post and fired back:
“This is completely false. X needs to respond to defamatory untrue statements like this.”

Here is how social media responded:
In reality, Judge Loretta Preska set a release date of Jan. 1 to give the people listed in the court filing enough time to appeal the decision. It is unclear whose names are on the list
Epstein’s associates were named in a settled civil defamation suit filed by Virginia Giuffre in 2015 against Ghislaine Maxwell.
Epstein was accused of sexually assaulting countless teenage girls. He reportedly had wealthy clients having sex with the girls at his homes in Manhattan; Palm Beach, Florida; and his private island near St. Thomas.
Epstein was charged by federal prosecutors in 2019 with one count of sex trafficking conspiracy and one count of sex trafficking with underage females.
He would unfortunately die by suicide in his jail cell in Manhattan a little over a month after being arrested.
