Lamar Jackson has been a quality addition to the Baltimore Ravens’ roster. Inclined towards football from a young age, Jackson initially caught the eye during his college days for the Louisville Cardinals. Leading his team to the 2016 Heisman Trophy, Jackson did not have to wait long to fulfill his dream.
Come 2018, the Ravens scooped up the young talent, who has since been of excellent service to the team. However, Lamar Jackson has been involved in some scathing controversies during his tenure. The most shocking one was his homophobic comments that riled up the football community.
What Did Lamar Jackson Say?
Back in 2022, Lamar Jackson got involved in a huge controversy. Following a poor showing by the Ravens, Jackson and his team naturally got the stick from the fans. In one such post online, Jackson seemed to have lost his cool as he verbally attacked a fan for criticizing his play.
Taking to his X account, the Ravens’ QB wrote in a now deleted tweet, “Boy STFU… y’all be cappin too much on this app mf never smelt a football field never did s**t but eat d**k!!” Now, as soon as the comment became public, the alarm bells went off. Jackson’s last bit of the comment was interpreted as homophobic.
By attacking one’s sexual preference, Lamar Jackson was soon at the center stage of a burning controversy. However, the NFL QB stated that he did not have any homophobic intentions in his comment. Jackson even accused the media of misinterpreting his statement and threatened to sue for defamation.
Jackson wrote in a subsequent tweet, “This is Defamation of my character… Because not once have I ever mentioned or disrespect anyone’s Sexuality, sexual orientation, gender, Religion or Race. Your reaching…” Well, this was not the only instance of Jackson’s controversial maneuver. He once called the NFL referees a cheater.

Frustrated Lamar Jackson Once Labeled The NFL Referees As A ‘Cheater’
Playing against the Cowboys this year in September, the Ravens suffered a bizarre situation. While Jackson played brilliantly to have his team enjoy a 28-6 lead ahead of the fourth quarter, things changed rapidly. The Dallas outfit hit back with 19 back-to-back points. Despite the Ravens managing to sneak a 28-25 win, Jackson, in particular, was furious with the referee.
After the game, Jackson looked into the camera and said, “Stop cheating us, bro.” Well, his frustration did have some legitimate reasons. One of them was a missed safety, which should have gotten the Ravens a couple of points, but the referee denied it. The referee called Marcus Williams for an illegal contact in the fourth quarter to escalate things further.
Upon review, it was found that there was barely any contact. Thus, despite his share of controversies, Lamar Jackson remains quite a unique personality in the NFL. It will be interesting to see how his career continues from here on.
