Ezekiel Elliott has seen his star lose some brightness in recent years and not just the one that used to be on the side of his helmet after the Dallas Cowboys cut him from the roster.
After being a top-10 pick and bursting onto the scene behind one of the best offensive lines in football, Elliott has lost a step, possibly even more.
The NFL Draft has come and gone and while teams have opened up mini camps, he still remains unsigned.
His fate is now seemingly in the hands of two teams that have been tabbed as possible landing spots. They are the Cleveland Browns or the Los Angeles Chargers.
“A league insider told Sportskeeda that the most likely landing spots for Ezekiel Elliott are either the Cleveland Browns or the Los Angeles Chargers. … Elliott, paired with Chargers starting running back Austin Ekeler, would give the Chargers arguably one of the most lethal running back tandems in all of football – one that would feature elusiveness, power, and speed.”
The running back’s playing time aspirations may be the reason he stays unsigned.

Skip Peete, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers running backs coach, who previously worked for the Cowboys, believes Elliott would be a good fit with the Bucs if he was ready to take a smaller role and a lower contract.
“I think that’s part of the reason he’s sitting out there,” Peete said. “If you’re going to play, I mean, you’re going to be the second and third guy. That’s kind of what the price is. So. that’s something that a person has to be able to see that that is what it is going to be.”
There is a natural fit for Elliott in Los Angeles as his former Cowboys offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, is now the offensive coordinator for the Chargers. The fit here would be based on familiarity and not him being the starter.
In four seasons with Moore as his coordinator, Elliott scored double-digit touchdowns three times. The Chargers need an RB2 with a goal-line presence, and that’s what Elliott can provide at this point.
With D’Ernest Johnson no longer in the fold, and Kareem Hunt himself sitting as a free agent, Cleveland needs a running back to back up star Nick Chubb.
Zeke could also step in here and produce.
Elliott simply isn’t that guy anymore and hasn’t been for some time. It took the Cowboys more time than it should have to realize that. By him not being signed, other teams have already realized that.
