Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes already lost a key coach this offseason when quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka bolted the Chiefs to become the new offensive coordinator for the New York Giants.
Mahomes could find himself down another coach, and if not, the relationship between him and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy will need to be repaired going forward.
An explosive report alleges that Bieniemy has a beef with starting QB Patrick Mahomes and the issues between them caused the team to falter in the AFC Championship in the second half against the Bengals.
“According to our source, Bieniemy disliked the dynamics Mahomes brought to the offense because he felt it hurt his chances to become a head coach.
Bieniemy made this statement about Patrick Mahomes in 2020:
“You guys have been around him — you know him,” said Bieniemy. “He’s a competitive prick. OK? He’s a great kid, but he’s a competitive prick. He wants to improve at everything he could possibly improve upon. He wants to be the best at whatever he can do. And along the way, he wants to make sure that he’s leading the guys, he wants to be held accountable by his peers, but also, too — he just wants to work. And that’s what you love about being around him every single day.”

Mahomes and Reid reportedly had a good plan in place for Super Bowl LV, but Bieniemy didn’t like it as he reportedly made several changes, and he had the power to do so in his contract.
The team lost to the Tampa Bay Bucs as they were dominated from start to finish.
“Then the Chiefs started poorly in 2021. Mahomes struggled. Eyebrows were raised. The national media dug in, smelling blood.
The reality of the situation: schemes were misaligned, several defensive backs were not getting along with defensive backs coach Sam Madison, and the Chiefs had lingering injuries.
And then the biggest snowball of all started rolling again: the hidden feud between Bieniemy and Mahomes.”
The report says sources “indicated to us that the reason Bieniemy doesn’t have a head-coaching job is because of his temperament and unwillingness to accept feedback from his players.” That reportedly came up with the Houston Texans and the New Orleans Saints. Broncos GM George Paton asked Bieniemy about a situation he saw while in Kansas City earlier this season. The answer from Bieniemy eliminated him from job contention.
As you may remember, Mahomes and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy got heated on the sidelines during their game against the Broncos.
Mahomes was asked about the dust-up:
“Yeah, it was kind of a little mix up up of the play that we wanted to call in that situation,” Mahomes said. “And then like you said, both of us love it. I think that’s the biggest thing: both of us love being out there playing this sport, being part of the Kansas City Chiefs, and we both were just frustrated more with the game than we were with each other.
“And so obviously, we got a little frustration there. But we talked it out right after and I mean, I love that dude. He loves me and we’ll keep rolling.”
Mahomes was asked how quickly the issue got resolved.
“Pretty much right after,” he said. “I think when you have a respect for someone and you know that they care just as much as you do,… the frustration comes out and you just know that you still love each other at the end of the day.
“It’s kind of like when family members or brothers or whatever like that fight. You both care about each other, you both care about trying to be the best and get the best out of each other and that stuff dissolves really fast.”
The Chiefs eventually found themselves during the season, but the stain of that collapse in the AFC Championship game won’t be going away anytime soon.
