De’Veon Smith is trying his best to move on from the Pittsburgh Maulers after being cut, but his former head coach keeps talking about him and allegedly making up things about why he got dismissed from the team.
The Maulers released Smith quietly in early April and replaced him with former Michigan State and Tennessee running back Madre London. During “United by Football,” a documentary about the lead-up to the start of the USFL season, it was revealed that Smith’s release stemmed from him requesting pizza at the team hotel instead of chicken salad.
Last last month, Maulers head coach Kirby Wilson spoke with Outkick and stated that it was not about the food, but a ton of events that led to Smith being released.
Smith watched the interview and unloaded on the head coach.
“This man just said “I he was being disrespectful towards more then 3 people the day before he got released”. This is a bold face lie. He is again lying on who I am as a person, player, a farther. This makes me sick honestly! Kirby you will eventually have to tell the truth!!!!”
“He also lied by saying teams reached out prior to the video. Two teams in fact reached out to him about me. So just keep stacking the lies…”

Smith was one of the USFL’s most recognizable names after he posted a good career at Michigan and starred in the 2020 reboot of the XFL, racking up a league-high 365 rushing yards before the XFL ceased operations.
Now, he has to sit and wait for his next opportunity as no team is likely to bring him on during such a short season.
