Has the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady relationship deteriorated to the point that the Patriots head coach wants his longtime friend to fail elsewhere?
That seems to be the case, according a former teammate.
In a recent interview with NBC Sports Boston, former Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson spoke frankly about head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft being just fine with Tom Brady signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Why? because they are confident Brady would not win there.
“…I think Bill thinks Tom isn’t going to win there,” Johnson said. “They’re not going to be successful. It’s just an inherently bad franchise. Tom going there is not going to all of a sudden turn around their fortunes.”
The Brady-to-Buccaneers kicked into high gear this week when reports suggested the franchise would be willing to give him full control over the roster.
Johnson continued to go even deeper:
“I feel like this is getting personal,” Johnson said. “So I’m basically saying that Bill Belichick wants to see Tom Brady fail. He might, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there would be a part of him that’s like, ‘Yeah, go ahead, Tom. Go to Tampa. Enjoy yourself.’”
