Trevone Boykin has been in nothing but trouble since he last played in the National Football League. The former Texas Christian University standout and NFL quarterback fall from grace plunged even deeper this week, when he was sentenced to three years in prison Wednesday via a plea arrangement with Tarrant County (Tx) prosecutors.
Boykin plead guilty to charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and tampering with a witness.
Per the Fort Worth Star Telegram:
“Boykin was accused of domestic violence by a girlfriend, Shabrika Bailey, who alleged that Boykin broke her jaw during a March 2018 argument.
Mansfield police arrested Boykin on suspicion of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury. Boykin denied the allegations and posted bond, but the Seattle Seahawks released him from the team shortly after.”
This was all due to her not unlocking her phone and refusing to show him a text message:
“So he goes into a choke. I remember him choking me and I’m trying to calm him down. And I just couldn’t. And I blacked out. I just couldn’t calm him down at all,” Bailey said. “The pressure was just hard. The pressure got hard to where I just remember just collapsing completely. And I just woke up in a puddle of blood on the kitchen floor. My whole right side was full of blood on the kitchen floor.”
He will also spend 180 days in the Tarrant County jail for the misdemeanors of theft of services and theft of property.

“The victim in this case sustained a long-standing relationship of abuse by Mr. Boykin and, along with our office, feels his prison sentence is vindication for what she endured and the consequences he was able to avoid in the past because of his ability on the football field,” said Allenna Bangs, chief of the Intimate Partner Violence team at the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
Boykin’s sentences will run concurrently.
The former Seattle Seahawks QB served as the backup quarterback for the team in 2016 and 2017, appearing in five games and completing 13 of 18 passes for 145 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
