After releasing Cam Newton before the 2021 season, the New England Patriots made it known that Mac Jones would be their starting QB of the future and he turned in a solid season and led the team to the postseason in his rookie year.
On Tuesday, ex-Patriots tight end Jermaine Wiggins said on “The Greg Hill Show” on WEEI that he would like to see his old team take a big step and look to trade Jones for either Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson.
“We have seen, in order for you to win a Super Bowl, you must have an elite quarterback, and you don’t have that,” Wiggins said.
“I would love to trade him [Jones] to Seattle because they clearly have issues with Russell Wilson,” Wiggins said. “He wants out. Pete Carroll gets the quarterback that he can control for the price that he wants. ? And then you as the New England Patriots, getting back to the Super Bowl, because this is what it’s for, you get a top-seven quarterback in the NFL in Russell Wilson, who still has seven elite years ahead of him.”
The Seattle Seahawks would love to keep Wilson, but if they are forced to trade him, they would have to do so on his terms as he has a no-trade clause. Much like Wilson — Deshaun Watson also has a no-trade clause, but he and the Texans definitely want to part ways with each other.
In his first NFL campaign, the former Alabama QB passed for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Watson did not play at all in 2021, as the Texans left him inactive as he faced 22 civil lawsuits filed by women accusing him of sexual assault or sexual misconduct during massage sessions. Watson is also the subject of 10 police complaints, including two from women who haven’t filed lawsuits. Although the Texans went just 4-12 in 2020, Watson enjoyed his best statistical season, completing 70.2 percent of his passes for an NFL-high 4,823 yards, as well as 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
Seattle finished at 7–10 last season as Wilson tallied 3,113 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions.
