Friends and teammates said former Chargers star Vincent Jackson would be remembered not only for his game but what he meant to others off the field.
The 38-year-old was found dead in a room at the Homewood Suites in the Tampa Bay, Florida, area where he retired. Hillsbrorough County Sheriff has since opened an investigation, but noted that he had no obvious injuries at the time of his death.
Greg Camarillo was his rookie roommate with the Chargers during Jackson’s stint with the team when they were based in San Diego.
Camarillo, who played in the NFL for seven seasons, recently took to Twitter in the wake of Jackson’s death and detailed what retired players go through after they step away from a game that they have played since a child.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister announced one of the key findings of Jackson’s autopsy report on Wednesday.
“Chronister said that, based on the autopsy, Jackson suffered from ‘chronic alcoholism,’” wrote Florio. “Chronister, who added that Jackson had ‘a lot of longstanding health conditions,’ said that the toxicology report has not yet been completed.”
Jackson last played in the NFL in 2016 as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
During his career in the league, Camarillo recorded 146 catches for 1,730 yards and five touchdowns.
