A former NFL general manager has advised the Chicago Bears to trade quarterback Justin Fields and use their No.1 pick to draft Bryce Young out of Alabama.
The Bears selected Fields 11th overall in 2021, yet Mike Tannenbaum, a former GM who’s now a league insider, reckons the team should make another attempt at bringing in a franchise QB, which would mean cutting ties with fields.
“I would trade Justin Fields,” Tannenbaum said on ESPN’s Get Up on Tuesday morning. “If you could get at least a first and a third-round pick, which I believe you can… I’m gonna draft Bryce Young who I think is going to be a better quarterback than Justin Fields … I’m resetting Bryce Young’s rookie contract and I’m going to be able to get at least four starting caliber players. … If I can turn Justin Fields basically into six quality players, and get Bryce Young who I think will be the better player, I’m making that move if I’m the Bears.”

Fields has improved remarkably in his second season with the Bears, both as a passer and a runner. He’s looking like he could be the QB Chicago expected to get when they drafted him out of Ohio State, so they are very unlikely to trade him now.
It’s rumored that the Bears will trade out of the pick so they can acquire assets to build around their quarterback, but their move remains to be seen.
Who knows? Maybe Tannenbaum has already gotten them thinking. His suggestion really doesn’t seem all that bad.
