The Los Angeles Chargers may not have won their Thursday night battle with the Kansas City Chiefs, but that didn’t stop Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert from earning a reputation as an absolute DAWG tonight.
Herbert had his moments throughout the first three quarters, but it is what he did late in the game that earned him the respect of everyone watching.
Late in the fourth quarter, with his team trailing, Herbert took a brutal shot to the ribs that left him in noticeable pain.
It was so bad that on the following drive, facing 3rd & 1, Herbert had the opportunity to run for an easy first down to keep the drive alive — but he opted to throw the ball away instead.
At that point, it seemed like the Chargers were finished… Not so fast.

On the very next play, facing fourth down, Herbert mustered up whatever strength he had left and delivered a strike downfield to DeAndre Carter, setting up a first-and-goal situation.
Four plays later, he found Joshua Palmer in the end zone to cut the Chiefs’ lead to three.
Unfortunately, Herbert’s gutsy performance was all for naught, as K.C. recovered the onside kick to seal the 27-24 victory. But despite failing to earn the win, the Chargers’ phenom did earn the respect of Twitter, who were admiring the “dawg” in Herbert.
In fact, nearly everyone was making the same joke about it:
Move over, Zach Wilson. You’ve got some serious competition for the label of “Biggest DAWG in the NFL.”
