Cameron Sutton had been a wanted man for weeks after police issued a warrant for his arrest on March 7 on a felony count of domestic battery by strangulation. The Detroit Lions learned of his warrant and encouraged him to turn himself in. They would go on to release him the very next day.
One of the Lions’ top free-agent additions last spring, the veteran cornerback did not have the best first year with the team but he did play in all games. He made 65 tackles and had one interception while starting all 17 regular season games.
In the postseason, he struggled against opposing No. 1 receivers.
Cameron Sutton Could Possibly Lose His Career Over Domestic Violence Allegations
The Detroit Lions announced last Thursday that cornerback Cameron Sutton was released by the team. It came one day after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa issued a warrant for Sutton’s arrest on a charge of aggravated battery-domestic violence.
With him struggling last year and not being a top player at his cornerback position, Sutton could be facing the fact of losing his career based on how these charges play out.
His charge is a third-degree felony and carries up to a five-year prison sentence.
