On Monday night, the San Francisco 49ers hosted the New York Jets for the first Monday Night Football game of the year. The 49ers came away with the win despite being without All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey.
Now, further details have emerged about the severity of McCaffrey’s injury. It’s being reported that he is suffering from Achilles tendinitis, which can take months to heal in serious cases, but his severity is not yet fully known.
Of course, McCaffrey was the cover athlete for Madden 25, and many online are now pointing to the infamous “Madden Curse” for the injury.

“Can teams ban their players from taking the cover? They should for the sake of their season,” said one comment.
“madden cover, new commercials, recently married… the holy trinity of fantasy red flags,” said another about McCaffrey.
“But are we sure it’s the Madden curse, and not the curse of the unanimous 1.01? Or the curse of the RB who led the NFL in touches the previous season?” added a third.
“It’s a very real thing and there’s people out there in X land that will lose their ever loving minds with this kind of talk,” continued a fourth.
Of course, hopefully, a speedy recovery will return one of the most dynamic and explosive running backs to the field sooner rather than later.
49ers Offense Functioned Well Without Christian McCaffrey
The thought of a 49ers offense without star running back Christian McCaffrey seems frightening. He completely changes the game plan of any defense when he touches the field.
However, the offense seemed to do just fine with McCaffrey out against the Jets on Monday Night Football.
Backup running back Jordan Mason still broke out with 28 carries for 147 yards and one touchdown. His performance was one of the key pieces in the 49ers win.
