Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair took to social media on Monday morning and shared an emotional apology for his dirty hit on Sunday, which injured Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
In a lengthy message shared on his Instagram Stories and on X, Al-Shaair apologized to Lawrence, stating in part that he “always played the game as hard as I could” and “never with the intent to harm anyone.”
“My goal is to hit you as hard as I can then I pray you’re still able to get up and play the next play. And when the game is over go home to your family unharmed because it’s not personal it’s just competition!” he posted.
“We both are trying to do the same thing which is provide for our families! I genuinely didn’t see him sliding until it was too late. And it all happens in the blink of an eye. To Trevor, I genuinely apologize to you for what ended up happening.”
Unfortunately for Azeez Al-Shaair, not everybody was a fan of his apology.
“We ain’t reading all that bro, just put the fries in the bag,” one fan stated in the comment section.

One fan called him out for his past actions, “Explain why you punched Roschon Johnson in week 2, then explain why you didn’t leave the field immediately after getting ejected and continued to try picking a fight. Your words mean nothing.”
Another fan added, “Nah. It’d be different if it were a one time thing but you been dirty all year.”
“Blaming racism and Islamophobia for a total lack of self-control just moments after lying about it 🤌🤌” as one fan posted screenshots of his past behavior.
One final fan added, “This might mean something if you weren’t already a dirty player.”
Hopefully, for Azeez Al-Shaair, he posted his apology and then completely left social media without reading anything in response.

Al-Shaair was ejected from the Texans’ Week 13 win after his hit on Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
A suspension is definitely on the table.
Mark Maske of the Washington Post reported that the NFL is reviewing the play in question.
Al-Shaair has never been suspended in his career, but the sixth-year linebacker might catch his first one this week.
