The blow-back to Bill O’Brien trading DeAndre Hopkins has been fast and swift after he sent him packing to the Arizona Cardinals.
Then came the news on ESPN in which Hall of Famer Michael Irvin revealed a shocking story about the soured relationship between Hopkins and his former coach. Irvin said Hopkins told him that O’Brien compared Hopkins to convicted murderer and former NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez.
“(Hopkins) told me, ‘Michael, it was a bit of a power struggle there because Bill O’Brien thought … (Hopkins) had too much influence over the locker room,” Irvin said. “He called DeAndre Hopkins in a meeting to talk about this and to kind of, I guess, hash it out.
“In that meeting, he started the meeting telling DeAndre Hopkins this — which blew my mind when DeAndre told me this — he told DeAndre Hopkins the last time I had to have a meeting like this was with Aaron Hernandez.”
That led to former Texans WR Jaelen Strong taking to social media and blasting his former coach.

That was only the beginning as former Texan Braxton Miller appeared to confirm that the story of O’Brien wasn’t just a one-time thing.
Ex-Texans WR DeVier Posey confirmed the same:
Another former Texan in D’Onta Foreman:
Even current Texans WR Keke Coutee even seemed to throw shade towards the coach in a since-deleted tweet:
“My momma told me karma real.”
As for Hopkins, he took the classy route by stating the entire story was “being blown way out of proportion.”
He didn’t deny it, but he also sounded like a man who just wanted to move on to the next phase of his career.
