Every Summer, before the season kicks off, ESPN surveys league executives, coaches, scouts and players to determine who they think are the top ten players at various positions. These lists are often controversial and a strong case could be made for about 12-15 players per position.
The quarterback list was recently revealed and the rankings can be seen in the Tweet below.
It is hard to argue with the top of the list, with the top four players all proven veterans who have done a lot of winning in the NFL. The controversy really starts with the middle to the back end of the list.
Deshaun Watson being included was surprising considering he missed all of last season and his availability for this upcoming season is still in question. The long layoff as well as moving to a new team and learning a new offensive system may have a long adjustment period.
The most notable snub appears to be Ravens quarterback and 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. It seems as though many people do not take into account Jackson’s great running ability and tend to focus on his mediocre passing stats.
ESPN analyst and former QB Dan Orlovsky wants Lamar on the list.

Kyler Murray is another dual-threat quarterback that was left off the list. When evaluating a quarterback, you absolutely must take into account what he does with his legs as it impacts the game in a very big way.
Lamar Jackson has rushed for over 1,000 yards twice in his career in back-to back seasons, 2019 when he set the all-time record with 1,206 and 2020. Michael Vick is the only other quarterback to ever accomplish this, doing so in 2006.
