We’re still over three months away from the start of the 2022 NFL season, but ESPN’s already gone ahead and given some predictions on how everything will play out.
ESPN uses their NFL Football Power Index to evaluate team’s based on their strengths and weaknesses, as well as other factors. They then used those evaluations across 10,000 simulations to determine every team’s projected record and their likelihood of winning the Super Bowl.
Based on their most recent projections for the 2022 season, ESPN’s Football Power Index sees the Buffalo Bills finishing with the league’s best record, at 10.9-and-6.0. They’re followed up by the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers at 10.5-and-6.3, with the Rams coming in at 10.1-and-6.7.
Despite having the fourth-best projected record, ESPN’s Power Index does have Sean McVay’s club with the best chance of making the Super Bowl out of the NFC, at 12.8 percent — followed by the Packers and Cowboys at 11.8 and 11.5 percent, respectively.
As for the Bills, they’re listed with the best chances of making the Super Bowl in the entire NFL, at 13.3 percent. And they also have the best chances of winning it all at 6.9 percent.
In recent years, the Bills have come close to making their first Super Bowl since the 1993 season. Last year, they lost a heartbreaker in overtime to the Chiefs during the Divisional Round. And one year earlier, it was the Chiefs who once again cut their playoff run short, this time in the AFC Championship. If ESPN’s predictions are accurate, we could be seeing the Bills take on the defending champs at Super Bowl LVII.
