NFL insider Adam Schefter has suggested that an AFC East head coach is in danger of being fired.
We saw the first HC firing of the 2023 season in early November, with the Raiders getting rid of Josh McDaniels. While it’s probably unlikely that there will be any more midseason terminations, Schefter has pointed out that the Bills might end up parting ways with Sean McDermott and that pressure is on the 49-year-old following a fifth loss this season.
McDermott has been the head coach in Buffalo since 2017 and has guided them to the playoffs every year, save one, since then. But, at 5-5, the team is on course to hand McDermott one of his worst campaigns and, according to Schefter, he could end up getting fired.
The way Schefter sees it, the Bills have made multiple alterations already this year and could run out of changes to make, which might result in them abandoning the McDermott project.
“They changed their defensive coordinator in the offseason,” the ESPN reporter told Pat McAfee on Wednesday. “They changed their offensive in season. If they don’t get the results they want, they’re gonna have to look at everybody here, right? At some point in time, there are no other people to get rid of.
“To me, it’s some basic common sense that Sean McDermott knows the pressure is on him. He has to put up with a team that many people thought had Super Bowl capabilities. This team has struggled recently to regain the form that many people thought they’d have. I think he knows the pressure is on. Everybody is watching them right now.”
To make matters worse, Buffalo has a challenging schedule ahead as they’re to face the Jets, Eagles, Chiefs, Cowboys, and Chargers before playing their final regular-season game against the Patriots.

The organization has already made a significant coaching change since their surprising loss to the Broncos this week, firing offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. Might McDermott experience the same fate?
