Once the Washington Football Team lost safety Landon Collins for the year due to a torn Achilles, signing Eric Reid as his replacement seemed like a logical fit.
Only problem there is that Reid did not feel the same as them. Reid was offered a spot on Washington’s practice squad, according to Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press, but the veteran safety reportedly declined the offer.
“I just don’t think playing on the practice squad is reflective or indicative of my career,” Reid told Rob Maadi of the AP. “I’m just not in a place to play on the practice squad right now. If they go a different direction, I’ll be ready.”
Reid played spent the last two seasons in Carolina with Ron Rivera, and although he started all 16 games last year, the new coaching staff came in and released him in March.
Colin Kaepernick tweeted that teams were blackballing Reid.
“While the NFL runs propaganda about how they care about Black Life, they are still actively blackballing Eric Reid for fighting for the Black community,” Kaepernick tweeted. “Eric set 2 franchise records last year, and is one of the best defensive players in the league.”
